A bridge between an original series episode and the second film
UPDATE
The trailer for Khan dropped at San Diego Comic Con this past July. During the panel, George Takei was confirmed to return as Captain Sulu. The character Takei played in the original series. Tim Russ will also return playing his character from Star Trek Voyager.
Paramount and CBS announced on February 27, 2025 that a new Star Trek audio drama series would release later this year. “Production has wrapped on recording,” says a press release from Paramount. The story would connect an episode of the original trilogy to the second Star Trek movie: “Wrath of Khan.”
This is only the second time there’s been an official Star Trek audio drama. The first was “No Man’s Land” in 2021. “No man’s Land” was a complimentary story set immedietly after the events of the streaming show “Picard’s” first season. The show starred Patrick Stewart who reprised his role as Captain Picard from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (1987-94).
From 1966 all the way to the 2020s, the only thing Star Trek had done on on audio was a one-minute PSA with William Shatner and the late Leonard Nimoy broadcasted in 1973 by the National Association of Progressive Radio Announcers. This new podcast titled “Khan” would be the first Star Trek show based on the characters in the in the original series.
The Writer/Director, Nicholas Meyer, of “The Wrath of Khan” will return and co-write the story with David Mack—a veteran story writer for many Star Trek properties—on what took place between Khan’s introduction in the episode “Space Seed” and the second Star Trek movie released 15 years after his first appearance in the show.
Paramount’s podcasting arm CBS’ Eye Podcast Productions worked with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment along with Realm who served as the production studio for the show. The podcast will feature the voice talents of Wrenn Schmidt as former Starfleet historian Lt. Marla McGivers and Naveen Andrews (Lost) as Khan. Other roles and their performers will be confirmed at a later date.
